For nearly a quarter of a century, innocent Ugandan women and children have been at the center of one of Africa’s longest running conflicts. An ongoing rebellion against the Ugandan Government by a sectarian Christian militant group known as the Lord’s Resistant Army (LRA) has resulted in thousands of women and children becoming the victims of widespread human rights violations, including abduction, mutilation and sexual enslavement. In addition, many of these children are forced to fight and kill as child soldiers.
Our MISSION was to provide these young people with a little HOPE, HELP and LOVE – Oklahoma style!
One of the core parts of our trips to Uganda is our work with Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe and the St. Monica Girls’ Tailoring Centre.
The St. Monica Girls’ Tailoring Centre is truly a special place that provides displaced women and children with necessary life skills and training. The Centre is run by Sister Rosemary and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sister Rosemary, who has witnessed this massive Ugandan crisis firsthand, is seeking to restore the lives of these innocent women and children by offering them a safe and secure place to learn, love and rebuild their lives.
PROS FOR AFRICA is a cooperative effort with the Whitten-Newman Foundation and several other organizations and generous individuals who have come together to join Sister Rosemary and the St. Monica Girls’ Tailoring Centre in support of this truly revolutionary initiative.
Our next trip is schedule for March 2011: Mission Uganda/Rwanda 2011. Stay tuned for updates and details about our next trip in the Upcoming Trips Section!
